About Nicks

Nick’s Italian Restaurant was opened in 1974 by Maria, who was born in a small Italian town tucked away in the mountains of Raiano, a town and comune of the province of L’Aquila in the Abruzzo region of Italy, located about 160-KM north of Rome.

As a young child, Maria learned to appreciate good food, and was taught at an early age that eating is one of the major pleasures of the day. It is to be savored and enjoyed as long as possible.

Maria and her family with their family recipes, moved to America where they settled down in Cicero, Illinois. As traditional Italian customs have it, no matter what time of day or night, all who entered Maria’s home never left without a good meal. Maria’s son Dominic, would often come home with friends.

Some surprisingly enough were famously known such as; Rocky Marciano, Jimmy Durante and many other celebrities, were good family friends. One thing was certain, everyone always sang the praises of Maria’s magnificent food.

In 1971, Maria and her family had enough of the brutal Chicago winters and happily moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. 3-years later, they opened Nick’s Italian Restaurant. Maria and her son were introduced to Chef Phillip, who had been with Nick’s Italian Restaurant since the start.

As the years went by, and 4 generations involved in the Italian Restaurant Business, it was very clear to Maria that her Grandson Dominic II was learning the Italian kitchen arts and following in her footsteps. When her grandson Dominic was old enough, he took over the operation, and today Dominic, along with his wife Debbie, and their 3 children Dominic III, Jacqueline and Niki, continue the family restaurant tradition, all working to serve you fine Italian cuisine.

Through the years Nick’s Italian Restaurant became a Fort Lauderdale landmark and a known favorite to lovers of authentic Italian cuisine. From their Snapper Puttanesca or Veal Picatta to Manicotti or Ravioli and the daily homemade bread and pizza, Dominic and his family have a sincere love for their business. A great experience! Food was amazing. The meatball and ricotta appetizer was delicious. The ricotta was so light and smooth. The entrees were well priced and good portion size. The garlic bread was to die for. This will be a regular stop now for sure. Great family place with great food and staff.

This place is so cute! Upstairs and downstairs, with live music upstairs if you’re feeling saucy, and quiet downstairs if you want a romantic evening with your significant other. The food is always fantastic and served in great portions. I will definitely be coming here again with my boyfriend since its one of his favorite places.

Our Family ate dinner at Nicks and the place couldn’t have been any more than perfect. The food was delicious and the service very good. I had the penne a la vodka served al dente and the sauce perfectly seasoned. Everything was just right! Dessert was also great, the Tiramisu was fresh and delicious. I can recommend this restaurant with no hesitations!
